![]() ![]() Eventually, Sam returns from the fighting to see his family, and while there in Redding, Connecticut, he is falsely accused of being a cattle-thief by some fellow soldiers, and is hauled off to prison. ![]() Meeker ends up on a British prison ship and dies there from cholera. As the years and the fighting continue, Tim has to take on more responsibility for the family business, especially after his father is captured as a traitor to the Patriot movement and is sent to prison. Tim's father and mother support loyalty to the King, and are distressed that their oldest son joins the rebellion. Sam has dropped out of Yale and joins the Patriots in their fight against the British government at the beginning of what will become the Revolutionary War. This historical fiction novel is told from the point of view of 12-year-old Tim Meeker, the younger brother of Sam Meeker.
